2012 Healthier U. S. School - Silver Award Winner

Congratulations to Robinson Elementary School for receiving the Healthier U. S. School Silver Award.  A Healthier U. S. School is one that 1) is enrolled in Team Nutrition (http://teamnutrition.usda.gov); 2) offers reimbursable lunches that demonstrate healthy menu planning practices that meet USDA nutrition standards; 3) provides nutrition education to students; 4) provides students with 90 minutes or more of physical activity; 5) maintains a high Average Daily Participation rate of at least 60% for Silver; and 6) adheres to guidelines established by FNS for foods served/sold in schools outside the National School Lunch Program.

 

2011 National Award Winning Healthy School

In June 2011, The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, recognized 17 Georgia schools for transforming their campuses into a healthier place for students and staff.  To earn this award, the schools revamped their meal service and physical activity programs to meet or exceed stringent standards set by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools Program.  Congratulations to Robinson Elementary School for earning and receiving the BRONZE AWARD!!!

Mission Statement

The mission of the Dawson County School Nutrition Program is to be a part of the education process by providing students with nutritious meals and nutrition education experiences that promote healthy children who are ready to learn.

Benefits to Children

The School Nutrition Program provides a nutritious breakfast and lunch for school children every day.  Free or reduced-price meals are available to students whose families meet qualifying economic guidelines.  The program provides meals that meet at least two-thirds of the recommended daily dietary allowances.  Meal choices offered each day include:  protein rich entrees, plenty of fruit and vegetable selections, whole-grain breads and cereals, and calcium rich milk.

Operations

The Dawson County School Nutrition Program is operated in accordance with the regulations of the National School Lunch Act, the regulations of the State Board of Education, and the Dawson County Board of Education.

Sources of funding for the School Nutrition Program include student and adult income, state funds, federal reimbursement for student meals based on income eligibility, and USDA donated commodity foods.

Breakfast: Cost $1.50, Reduced $.30

Lunch: Cost $2.25, Reduced $.40
